Lloyd Poe, owner and founder of Richmond Hill Design + Build, came to Richmond in 1990 and never left. He was the founder and previous owner of two very successful homebuilding companies, LifeStyle Builders and Developers, Inc. and Craftmaster Homes. He sold both in 2016 but quickly realized that retirement was not for him and started Richmond Hill Design + Build that same year.
Turning his attention to the unique character of Richmond’s affluent, historic neighborhoods, Lloyd applies his 29 years of building over 1,200 homes to the new company. His creative passion has always focused on outstanding design and now he can apply that skill by participating in the preservation of the architectural heritage of Richmond.
Vanessa Poe officially joined her father in business as a partner in 2020 assuming the role of Vice President. She continues the family line, as she represents the 5th generation of builders in the family and oversees the design, permit, and site observation of the projects. She made the switch to residential design and home building after 10+ years working as an Architect designing schools, community facilities, etc. She brought with her a love of thoughtful detail, practical application, and the push for unique exterior design. She is a licensed architect in both Texas and Virginia and has an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas with an emphasis in Green Building and Sustainable Design. Vanessa seeks to be involved in the community and is active with the Home Builders Association of Richmond as a past board member, Richmond Women in Design, Richmond AIA, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the local Doberman Rescue. Kevin McNulty is owner of LifeStyle Home Builders and is the joint-venture partner with Richmond Hill Design + Build. LifeStyle handles all of the vertical construction and warranty for the joint venture. Kevin is a graduate of Virginia Tech and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has over 24 of years of homebuilding experience and is a past president of the Home Building Association of Richmond. Kevin’s hobbies including hunting and motorcycling.
Kimber is a new addition to the Richmond Hill family. This rescue Doberman came on board as a temporary hire as Vanessa’s foster dog, and quickly stepped up and took part in the daily workings of our projects. Soon after her internship was over, she was adopted (aka, foster fail) and now is a full-time employee. Kimber is a great asset to the team and is our Chief Morale Officer (CMO). She roams the office, greeting all those who come by and enjoys zoomies on the jobsites. With each home she helps to analyze the construction, keep an eye on the trades, and make sure the projects are canine compliant. Be on the lookout for her photobombing our photos on social media!
